What's black and white and red all over?

365 Cards #27
Unfortunately, I'm note sure kids these days even know or understand the traditional answer to my title. But today's answer is actually two sketch cards I did.  I used the same image ( a free digi from The Alley Way Stamps website) and the same papers, but they definitely are not the same card.  You'll notice I did a little doodling on the coffee cup image.
Retro Sketch 48
The first card uses this week's sketch from 365 Cards, challenge #27. This is a vertical card. The white background is embossed in the swiss dot folder, to emphasize all the dots going on. I added dots to the image and used dotted organza ribbon as a little tab.
The second card, the horizontal one, uses Retro Sketch challenge #48. The doodling on this is a little different -- I was going to doodle squiggles for the three little strips, but this patterned paper really matches the image and worked too perfectly. I used the organza ribbon again, this time tied onto a heart-shaped clip. There is piercing all around the edge of the red panel. The sentiment is straight off the computer printer.

In the pink

I created this very girly card for the the BE-Inspired #20 challenge at The Alley Way Stamps.  The inspiration photo is some pink parfait-looking concoction, so pink it is.

Images are from the Freebie files at The Alley Way site. The frosting is paper-pieced, and the candle is colored with pencils, with a little glitter pen on the flame.

Central panel is on pop dots to accommodate the different thicknesses of the ribbons. (Who knew I had so many pink ribbons?)

Sketch comes from SCS's Clean and Simple Challenge for this week.

Doggone Cute

I have been wanting to work a card for The Alley Way's Be Inspired challenge #19 for days. When the newest Feeling Sketchy Challenge, #42, came out, I knew the two were a match made in heaven.

Is this pooch not the cutest thing ever?  I love how The Alley Way images are so good for paper piecing, which is one of my fave techniques.  Obviously, I paper pieced the brown on his face. (I made another version using striped dp, and it's stinking cute, too.)

I also love using up scraps, and for this card I just pulled out all my orange-ish scraps and picked up some that looked they were from the same family.

Welcome Snow

Spent a week at my in-laws, who live in a snowier part of the country. I cannot tell you how odd it seemed to me to look out the window every day and see snow. The best part about snow in the South is that it comes, it's pretty for a short while, and then it melts. There's nothing uglier than old, dirty snow.

Despite those reservations, I made a card celebrating snow.  The sketch is from 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. This sketch just spoke to me. When I saw it, I knew I wanted to make a card with it.

The cute snowman is from Paper Cupcakes, a digital company that just closed up shop. I love the twill ribbon with the mittens printed on it -- it's so cute and pairs so well with the snowman.

I heart 2013

Time to get started on crafting for the new year.  A COTM group I am in has the theme of fiber for this month, and we're supposed to do something more than just tie a bow with it. I ended up wrapping my fiber around a chipboard heart. I actually like the effect. The fiber is like velvety, like chenille, and has patches of glittery threads in it. I got it in a fiber swap back when fibers were all the rage, and just stumbled upon it in my stash when working on this challenge. Don't you love it when stuff from your stash jumps out at you and works perfectly?

The layout is Feeling Sketchy #41. This is also for 365 Cards #2http://feeling-sketchy.blogspot.com/2013/01/feeling-sketchy-41.html, to do a Valentine's card, or at least to use a heart.

The patterned paper is from Cosmos Cricket. Sentiment is Hero Arts, done in Memento black.

Stencils and diecuts

I've had the idea for this card for a while, but I finally got around to making it this week.  I started by stenciling the stone fence...
